Gitega International Academy
Located in Gitega, Burundi, and established in 2012, Gitega International Academy (G.I.A.) is Burundi’s first English-speaking secondary boarding school. The Academy is a private Christian institution for young men and women, with the purpose of elevating the status of Burundian scholarship and developing Godly East African leaders for Burundi’s future by fostering academic excellence, integrity, and an intimate relationship with the Lord.
In its inaugural 2012-2013 academic year, Gitega International Academy admitted students to grades seven and eight. Every year thereafter one additional grade was being added, we started with ninth grade in 2013-2014, until all six grade levels (seven through twelve) are offered for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Classes are taught exclusively in English and the first term includes an intensive study of the English language as well as extra computer courses in order to ensure that each student develops the skills needed to excel in an extraordinary scholastic environment. We strive to offer the highest quality of education in Burundi, setting the bar for other academic institutions in the region.
The school’s campus currently has twelve classrooms, a library, a science laboratory, a computer room, an administrative building, 2 dining halls, separate young men’s and women’s dormitories, sports fields and courts, and a large brick wall enclosing the Academy grounds. The campus is expanded each summer The total student this academic year 2021-2022 is 379 students.
